Summary:

Toxoplasmosis is one of the most common opportunistic infections in HIV-positive patients. The onset of HIV-infection with cerebral toxoplasmosis makes this disease a multidisciplinary problem and requires the participation of doctors of various specialties (infectious disease specialists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, general practitioners, etc.). Early diagnosis and treatment of this disease will reduce the risk of deaths and severe consequences. We carry out an analysis of the clinical case of toxoplasma encephalitis in a HIV-infected patient. We have identified errors in the establishing diagnosis. We have given a detailed account a patient management plan. We also comment on some of the problem early disease detection HIV-infection.

Emotional intelligence as an indicator of cognitive functioning in patients with schizophrenia

Summary:

Aim: to analyze the variability of emotional intelligence as an indicator of cognitive functioning in groups of patients with schizophrenia, depending on the duration of the disease, the duration of treatment and the treatment regimen used. Material and Methods. A total of 420 patients with a clinical diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia were examined. All patients were divided into groups according to the duration of the disease and the therapy. The research included the medical documentation analyses and the application of «Ekman's Faces» psychodiagnostic scale. Results. There was an improvement of the indicator in the group of primary patients receiving treatment with atypical antipsychotics in combination with rehabilitation. Conclusion. The obtained data allows to make a conclusion about the effect of the duration of the disease, the observation, and also the nature of the conducted therapy on the variability of the emotional intelligence indicator in patients with a paranoid form of schizophrenia and may be used to select a psychotherapeutic algorithm for this category of patients. The obtained results prove the necessity of using questionnaire for emotional intelligence «Ekman's faces» and specific therapy in the early stages of the disease.

Summary:

The aim of the study is to identify the state of sex education and sexual behavior characteristics of students of Saratov State Medical University n.a. V. I. Razumovsky. Material and Methods. The anonymous survey of 214 students (160 female, 54 male) has been conducted. The median age of female respondents was 22±1.02 years, male respondents 21±1.21 years. Results. The issues concerning the sexual culture of today's youth and their reproductive plans have been discussed. Conclusion. The main trends of sexual behavior among medical students and intersexual characteristics of sexual culture among young people have been found out.

Individually-typological heterogeneity of prehypertension in young men

Summary:

Objective: to study the individually-typological features of the person of young men with prehypertension. Material and Methods. With the help of complex tests: Reduced Multiple Personality Questionnaire for research (MMPI), the Heck — Hess, Spielberger — Hanin, Index lifestyle were examined 95 healthy young men with different levels of blood pressure: optimal, normal and high normal. Results. It has been shown that people with normal and high normal blood pressure have different individually-typological features of the person and, based on this criterion can not be combined into a single group prehypertension. Men with normal blood pressure values on the studied parameters were similar to individuals with optimal blood pressure value. Persons with high normal level of blood pressure had a psychosomatic predisposition personality profile MMPI, with its fixation on physical sensations, with the increase of anxiety, neuroticism and the overall intensity of psychological protection. Conclusion. It is advisable to carry out a personalized approach to the psychological correction of identified changes in primary prevention of arterial hypertension in young men.

Summary:

The morbidity of depressive disorders and their role in the formation of different human pathologies emphasize the actuality of searching for new approaches in the prophylaxis and treatment of depressions. The modification of gut microbiota may be a perspective direction of clinical investigation. Development in this area is based on the review of trials which confirm the significance of gut microflora composition in regulation of mental functions in particular mood and behavior as well as the role of diet in the development of depressions. The hypothesis of the role of gut microbiota in the development of depressive conditions was discussed.

The article presents data on risk factors that contribute to the development of suicidal behavior. The development of suicidal behavior is infuenced by a number of factors. These include — gender, age, residence, occupation, marital status, health status, etc. A number of studies indicated the impact of economic and social factors on the level of suicidal activity of the population. Observed relationship between mental disorders, substance abuse (particularly alcohol) and suicide. In this case, the presence of numerous investigations in the feld of Suicidology, a number of problems still remains unsolved. Further study of issues relating to risk factors that infuence the development of suicidal behavior. Of particular note is the importance of “regional” risk factors that most infuence on the formation of suicidal behavior in a particular region.

Summary:

The paper presents literature data on the polymorphism of mental disorders in perimenopausal period in women and the theories of the climacteric syndrome. According to current hypothesis, melatonin has antigonadotropnym properties. The sharp decline in melatonin levels in the body during puberty promotes activation of pituitary gonadotrophic function, the development of the follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, which have a stimulating effect on the sex glands. Involvement of melatonin in the pathogenesis of climacteric syndrome has been insuffciently studied, and studies devoted to the use of melatonin as a therapeutic agent are contradictory. Further study of the role of melatonin in the occurrence of the climacteric syndrome will understand the possibilities of pharmacotherapy considered disorders.

Summary:

Processes of urbanization, stressful events and other social trends of the modern world are considered as the social predictors determining the growth of frequency of mental illness. They are directly associated with manifestations of mental disorders, including schizophrenia. The majority of people is subjected to mental disorders living in unfavorable conditions. According to severe social consequences schizophrenia takes the leading position in psychiatry. Course of schizophrenia is one of the main clinical predictors of clinical and social prognosis. The research has established that the clinical predictors determining the severity of non-cancerous condition of patients with schizophrenia are not obligate in the socialization of the patients.

Summary:

The article deals with the quality of life that is relevant to health as the estimated category condition of the subject in the disease situation. This category characterizes the parameters of all components of the patient's life. The approaches to evaluation of the quality of patients' life in contemporary psychiatric practice are discussed. The results of the original research of the quality of life that is relevant to health in patients with schizophrenia are presented. It is proved that the quality of life and social functioning of patients with schizophrenia are significantly iowerthan in the general population. The index of the quality of life that is defined on the basis of the question list of WHO QOL-100 supplements the disease pattern. It is a multifactor criterion for evaluation of the patient's condition in psychiatric practice

Impact of unemployment and alcoholism on suicidal activity in the Saratov region

The research goal is to study the spread of completed and uncompleted suicides in the Saratov region during the period of 2001-2010, and influence of unemployment and alcohol abuse on suicidal behavior of the population in the most unfavourable areas of the region. To conduct the research elaborated questionnaires, describing suicidal and drug situations in the Saratov region during 2001-2010, and the reports of the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Migration in the Saratov region were used. Results: Areas with the highest rate of suicidal activity during 2001-2010 were identified (Balakovo, Engels, Dukhovnitsky, Pugachev, Perelub and Arkadak). In each of these areas correlation between the level of suicide and alcoholism and unemployment levels of the population were established. The research results allowed identifying some predictors of suicidal behavior for the specific area. These predictors will be included in «The Map of the predictors of suicide risk in the Saratov region». It improves assistance in suicidal situations and reduces suicides
