Summary:

The development of optic neuropathy in leukemia and lymphomas has a wide range of etiological factors, being a result of neoplastic, infectious, compression, ischemic and toxic damage. Patients in the older age group may have cardiovascular risk factors that increase the risk of developing lesions of the optic nerve. Timely diagnosis of optic neuropathy in hemoblastosis and the choice of the optimal treatment method allow to maintain high visual function and improve patients» quality of life. The paper presents a clinical case of unilateral ischemic neuropathy in patients with clinical and hematological remission of acute myeloblastic leukemia and the presence of cardiovascular risk factors, as well as heart failure.

Results of a seven-year follow-up of an atypical form of multiple sclerosis, Marburg variant

Year: 2019, volume 15 Issue: №2 Pages: 414-418
Heading: Ophtalmology Article type: Case report

Summary:

Marburg disease afects young people and is characterized by an acute onset with a fulminant course. The disease leads to death within 1 year from the onset of symptoms. In Academician S. N. Fedorov «Eye Microsurgery» Center (Moscow) a patient with Marburg multiple sclerosis was followed up for seven years. Standard treatment in combination with physiotherapy treatment slowed the development of an irreversible decrease in visual function due to atrophy of the optic nerves.

Epidemiological characteristics of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in the Central Black Earth region

Summary:

Aim: to estimate the frequency of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment among the population of the Central Black Earth region. Material and Methods. A retrospective study on the study of patients with myopia, who turned to the rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) in "S. Fedorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution" in the period from 2006 to 2017 The epidemiological characteristics of patients who have applied to the RRF from five regions of the Central Black Earth Region (Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Tambov) are presented. Results. There is an annual increase in the number of patients with myopia complicated by RRD. The highest number of cases of myopia complicated by RRD was recorded in the age group of 50-59 years and 60 years and older, the smallest — in the age group 0-19 years. The female population suffers from a myopia complicated by the RRD equally with the male, but in the age groups 20-29 years, 30-39 years, men suffer more often, in the age groups 50-59 years, 60 years and older, women suffer more often. Among the patients from the Voronezh region, the largest number of cases of RRD was registered in the age group of 50-59 years, among patients from Tambov, Lipetsk and Kursk regions — in the age category of 60 years and older, from Belgorod region — in the age category of 30-39 years. The majority is represented by pensioners (60.3%), working people — 20.8%, disabled people — 15.8%, others 3.1%. Conclusion. Among the population of the regions of the Central Black Earth region, there is an annual increase in the number of patients with RRD, while the number of such patients will only increase, which indicates the need to improve the organization of eye care to the public.

Medical and social aspects of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy.

Year: 2017, volume 13 Issue: №3 Pages: 453-457
Heading: Health Service Organization Article type: Original article
Authors: Velichko Р.В., Osmanov Е.М., Manyakov R.R.
Organization: "Eye Microsurgery" n.a. academician S. N. Fedorov, Volgograd branch, Tambov State University n. a. G.R. Derzhavin
Summary:

The aim of the article: to study the medical and social aspects of diabetes mellitus and diabetic retinopathy at the regional level. Material and Methods. The prevalence, structure and dynamics of diabetes and diabetic retinopathy (DR) were analyzed among the population of the Tambov region for a seven-year period from 2010 to 2016 based on statistical compendiums on the main indicators of health facilities and the health of the population of the Tambov region (2010-2016) Russian statistical yearbooks (2010-2016), data from the regional State register of patients with diabetes. Results. In 2016 in the Tambov region, the prevalence of DR in type 1 diabetes is 53.2%, with type 2 diabetes 31.2%, significantly higher than all-Russian indicators, which were registered at 27.2% in patients with type 1 diabetes and 13.0% of patients with type 2 diabetes. Conclusion. The results of the comparative analysis of the level and structure of diabetes and DR indicate a negative trend among the population of the Tambov region, which dictates the need to develop effective and inexpensive methods for preventing the development and progression of DRs and making management decisions based on them.

Experience of modified procedure treatment of progressive keratoconus based on corneal collagen cross-linking with femtosecond formation of intrastromal pocket

Year: 2017, volume 13 Issue: №2 Pages: 431-434
Heading: Ophtalmology Article type: Original article
Authors: Solodkova E.G., Fokin V.P.
Organization: "Eye Microsurgery" n.a. academician S. N. Fedorov, Volgograd branch
Summary:

Aim: analysis of clinical and functional results, histomorphological changes of corneas in the application of the method of corneal collagen crosslinking with the formation of a femtosecond intrastromal pocket. Material and Methods. We studied 20 patients (20 eyes) that were operated for progressive keratoconus (1-2 stage) with a peripheral zone of maximum ectasia arrangement via corneal collagen cross-linking with femtosecond formation of intrastromal pocket for introduction of a photosensitizerand local ultraviolet radiation. Results. The result was a decrease of surgery duration and reduction of the severity of pain in the early postoperative period. Conclusion. This method allows to increase the safety of the treatment of keratoconus, reducing the risk of postoperative complications.
